Competency assessment is in vogue for credentialing of medical and dental students as well as for those individuals undertaking specialist medical and surgical training. There is a real risk that well proven-methodologies for assessment are being discarded to conform to a more modern view. Such developments may not be appropriate to sweep away more traditional assessment tools.
